How to Put a QR Code in a PDF

A “PDF QR code” can mean a code that opens a PDF document, or a PDF page containing a QR image. QR Code Free generates PNG and SVG files. It does not upload PDFs or provide a direct PDF download.

Make a code that opens a PDF

  1. Publish the PDF on a website or document service you control.
  2. Copy its public URL and test it while signed out of your account.
  3. Paste the complete URL into URL / Text in the generator.
  4. Download and scan the code on a phone. Check that the PDF opens without an unexpected login or permission request.

The PDF stays with its hosting service. This tool only encodes the address. Deleting the document, changing its link or restricting its permissions may make the printed code unusable.

Create a PDF containing your QR image

Download SVG for a compatible layout application, or PNG when your document application needs a raster image. Place the file on the page, preserve the clear border and add a short label explaining what it opens. Export the completed document as PDF.

Inspect the final PDF for cropping or visible blurring and print a sample at its intended size. A PDF may contain raster images, vector shapes or both. The PDF extension does not guarantee that the QR image inside is vector.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Encoding a local path from your computer instead of a public web address.
  • Sharing a restricted document link that only works in your account.
  • Replacing a menu or brochure with a new URL while continuing to use the old printed code.
  • Cropping the quiet zone to fit the page.
