Make a QR code that works in the real world
Choose the right content
Use URL / Text for a complete web address or a short message. Use Wi-Fi for a network name, password and security type; Contact for a vCard; or Email to prefill a draft. Check every field before exporting.
For a menu or document, enter the public link to the file. This generator encodes the link; it does not upload or host the document.
Keep the design readable
Start with dark modules on a plain, light background. Keep a clear margin around the code and avoid busy patterns behind it. A short URL produces a less dense code than a long link with tracking parameters.
Try square modules first. Logos and decorative shapes need extra testing, particularly at small sizes.
Download and test
Choose PNG for a fixed-size image or SVG when your design application needs scalable vector artwork. Open the exported file and scan that file, not only the preview.
Test on the final screen or printed material. Check both the decoded content and the destination page before sharing the code.
What each type actually does
- URL / Text
- Opens an encoded web address or displays plain text. Include https:// for a website and check that it opens without requiring your own login.
- Wi-Fi
- Encodes network credentials for compatible scanners. Anyone who can scan the code may obtain those credentials. Use a guest network when sharing access publicly.
- Contact
- Creates vCard data that a compatible phone can offer to save. Keep the name, phone and email accurate; different contact apps may handle optional fields differently.
- Asks the device to open its email application with your recipient, subject and message. The person scanning still chooses whether to send it.
Static means the data stays in the code
You cannot edit the encoded content after downloading or printing it. If the address changes, create a new code. If you control the destination website, you can update the content at the same URL.
The QR pattern has no expiry timer. A linked page can still expire, move, require a login or go offline. Keep control of the destination and check it periodically.

Before you print: a practical scan checklist
- Keep the border clear. A standard QR code needs a quiet zone of at least four modules on every side. The generator preserves this minimum in PNG and SVG exports.
- Choose a size for the actual setting. There is no universal print size that works for every payload, phone and distance. Dense codes, glare and distant viewing need more room. Print a sample at final size.
- Check contrast and decoration. Pale colours, gradients and large logos can make scanning unreliable. Error correction does not guarantee a scan and is not a safe percentage of artwork to cover.
- Use more than one phone. Try different camera apps, realistic lighting and the intended viewing angle. If scanning requires repeated attempts, simplify the design or enlarge the code.
- Check the destination. Scan while signed out of your own accounts and, for public links, try a mobile data connection. Add a short readable URL as an alternative on the printed piece.

Which formats can I download here?
The generator exports PNG and SVG. For PDF or EPS, open the SVG in a compatible design application and convert it there. This site does not provide a direct PDF or EPS export.
Is my Wi-Fi password or contact data uploaded?
The generator builds the QR code in your browser. The encoded data is visible to anyone who scans the resulting image, so share it carefully. The website also uses hosting, analytics and third-party services described in the privacy policy.
Can I track scans or change the QR code later?
This tool creates static QR codes and does not offer scan analytics or an editable redirect service. Analytics on your destination website are separate from the QR pattern.
Why does my QR code fail to scan?
Return to black on white, square modules and no logo. Keep the quiet zone intact and try a shorter payload or larger output. If the simple version works, reintroduce one design change at a time. See the colour and contrast guide.
Can I use the result for client or business work?
You can use the codes you generate in your projects. You remain responsible for the destination, permissions for logos and any personal information you share. Read the terms of use before distributing your code.
